This perspective has, I feel, become watered-down in our current cultural climate. The concepts of “equity” and “fairness” — which obviously and certainly have a vital place in our world — are taken to what I see as extremes in order to appear somehow balanced. But morality is by definition unbalanced. Truth is unbalanced. The former skews toward the correct and the socially agreed-upon good, the latter toward what is, well, true.
If we don’t hold to the few universal standards all non-psychopaths agree on, such as “rapists are immoral and must be outcast, criminalized, and condemned” or “violence is to be passionately avoided and given terrible weight by our communities,” I fear that this watering down will begin to confuse even our most vital and deeply held social contracts. Only chaos, collapse, and suffering can result from such a steady process.
Thank you for being honest AND a voice of integrity within the journalism/writing sphere. It is much needed and much appreciated!
